Description:

The Health Education Coordinator (Food Access Health Education Specialist) will provide expertise in the area of nutrition education, physical activity promotion and obesity prevention including policies, systems and environmental approaches; establish evidenced-based programming; based on identified community needs; and conduct evaluation that relates to identified needs and supports the mission of Chicago Partnership for Health Promotion (CPHP). Under administrative supervision implements and acts as trainer and evaluator for health education programming. This position will also provide direct education and assist with policy, system and environment implementation for intervention areas.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Train, mentor and evaluate staff, ensuring the requirements and objectives of their programming, including the appropriate use of grant funds are met
  • Act as a resource to paraprofessionals as they conduct programs that meet current and projected needs
  • Provide high quality, interactive nutrition education instruction to participants in a variety of formats (series of group sessions, workshops, etc.) covering topics on basic nutrition, physical activity and obesity prevention
  • Assist in the implementation of policy, systems, and environmental change strategies for designated intervention areas
  • Communicate and interact with community groups to evaluate the needs of clientele
  • Serve as an information resource to partners, clientele and staff
  • Ensure the planning of programs for the interventions
  • Provide information and guidance to staff regarding opportunities for learning through the use of mass media, group meetings, workshops and individual contacts
  • Actively participate in professional development opportunities
  • Work with colleagues, on a regular basis, to review and make needed changes/updates to curriculum and program offerings to meet the needs of diverse participants across race, gender, socioeconomic class, disabilities and other differences or to address community specific needs
  • Participate in intervention planning, including direct education, policy, systems and environmental change strategies
  • Ensure intervention program offerings meet SNAP-Ed grant objectives
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor's Degree (120 hours) in public, mental, and/or medical health education, social work, psychology, student personnel/affairs, nursing, education or communications
  2. Two (2) years (24 months) of experience conducting professional presentations, seminars or closely related programs and/or providing health education

Note: An applicant with a Master's degree in an area of health education qualifies with one year of professional communications and/or health education experience
