Job Description

The business continuity and disaster recovery (BC/DR) director develops, plans, executes, and tests the availability and recovery of business processes. This is an advanced role that requires a broad understanding of both technical solutions and business functions. The BC/DR director must understand business goals and strategy, along with operational requirements in a fast-paced environment. The BC/DR director supports continuous changes to the business to ensure critical processes are identified and prioritized according to business needs. The director acts a liaison to business stakeholders to understand their strategy and execution outlook.

The BC/DR director embodies a strong work ethic and demonstrates analytical and critical thinking. The role must also be masterful at coordinating diverse business units to ensure recovery objectives are achievable. Superior listening and communication skills, the ability to work well with business units and reasonable technical expertise are all expected. The BC/DR director will work in tandem with business units to include risk and business impact assessments, along with recovery time and point objectives. Full understanding of compliance mandates is also a key requirement. Additionally, and in conjunction with security and technical leadership and multi-disciplinary departments, the BC/DR director embodies business and technical principles and constantly assesses business risk to crucial business components.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with business leaders, technical teams, governance and third parties to incorporate availability and recovery needs.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact and subject matter expert for new and existing BC planning and recovery objectives.
  • Maintain templates that align with strategies around business applications, impact assessment, key dependencies, and recovery objectives and expectations.
  • Facilitate meetings with key stakeholders to assess strengths and weaknesses in the program and ensure adequate resources are allocated to the most critical functions needing attention.
  • Present the current state of continuity, resiliency, and recovery capabilities to senior management and stakeholders, and seek their approval as well as acceptance of feedback and required changes.
  • Lead, direct, and develop staff members and technical teams to elevate their knowledge and capabilities of BC/DR.
  • Define, create, and socialize BC planning and recovery policies signed off by senior leadership.
  • Ensure senior management holds business units accountable for their roles and obligations in BC/DR.
  • Work with stakeholders, crisis management and incident response teams to define benchmarks and metrics to align the program with expectations and set it up for success.
  • Conduct reviews with business units based on criticality; at a minimum, conduct annual reviews for critical processes.
  • Organize, communicate, and enforce BC lifecycle planning, along with business impact analysis reviews.
  • Review critical third-party contracts of service providers delivering recovery facilities.
  • Arrange and ensure testing of plans is executed to verify capabilities to recover and operate are met.
  • Partner with teams to define continuity, resiliency, and recovery key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics across business units.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant years of work experience.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas for this job opening.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, computer science, information assurance or related field.
  • One or more certifications desired. MBCP, CBCP, CRISC, CISSP, or PMP.
  • At least 12 years' experience in a BC/DR role, with at least 5 years in a management.
  • Strong project management experience.
  • Solid understanding and support of ISO 27001, NIST CSF, or IEC 62443 frameworks.
  • Knowledge of DR and BCP frameworks (DRII and BCI).
  • Knowledge and experience with ITIL in BC management preferred.
  • Experienced in business impact analysis planning, incident response planning and execution of plan testing.
  • Technical acumen to understand critical business applications' technical dependencies.
  • Experience coordinating internal teams with external service providers.
  • Proven trustworthiness and history of acting with integrity, taking pride in work, seeking to excel, being curious and adaptable, and communicating well.
  • Self-starter requiring minimal supervision.
  • Excellence in communicating business risk and remediation requirements from assessments.
  • Demonstrated strategic and tactical thinking, along with decision-making skills and business acumen.
