Overview

RTI International seeks a prospect for the Environmental Health Internship within Technology Advancement & Commercialization (TAC).

This internship is a contract position. The employment contract is administered by Greene Resources Powered by Array, RTI's supplemental staffing partner.

Exposure & Protection is a team of diverse researchers focused on, mostly, air quality and personal exposure assessment. We have programs devoted to protective garment evaluations, tobacco research, personal air monitoring, and community-engaged assessments of air quality, among others

Working for RTI, one of the world's leading research institutes, the Environmental Health Internwill gain broad knowledge and experience at the intersection of aerosol science, environmental exposures, and human health. The contractor will also have the opportunity to make connections with community organizations with which we collaborate for environmental health research and develop an understanding of research funding and client needs.

Learning Objectives:

  • Field research of air quality, community-engaged research planning and management.

Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Conduct data entry, compilation, and validation
  • Prepare, receive, transfer field study equipment
  • Conduct literature searches, and assist with manuscript and report preparation
  • Other duties to support research staff for air pollution exposure studies.

Additional Information

This hybrid paid internship will take place from May 2024 through August 2024. The internship requires a minimum commitment of 20-30 hours per week. Hours are flexible during business hours, Monday through Friday.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Senior undergraduate student or recent degree recipient in environmental science, public health, or related science or engineering discipline.
  • Strong computer skills especially with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Highly interactive interpersonal skills for effective communication with project team members.
  • Ability to work equally well independently and as part of a larger team.
  • Strong time management skills with ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented
  • Able to commute to RTI's HQ campus located in Research Triangle Park, NC

Preferred Qualifications

  • Programming skills (R, Python, etc.)
  • GIS skills
  • Statistical analysis
  • Experience in laboratory experiments and/or air sensor data collection.
