Select Medical and Rush University System for Health (RUSH) ceremonially broke ground Tuesday, May 24, 2022 for the RUSH Specialty Hospital on Chicago’s West Side. The 100-bed combined critical illness recovery and inpatient rehabilitation hospital will open in 2024 on the Rush University Medical Center campus. Jointly operated by RUSH and Select Medical, it will have 44 critical illness recovery and 56 inpatient rehabilitation beds.

In 2020, Select Medical successfully assumed operations of 71 RUSH outpatient rehabilitation therapy centers. With the addition of RUSH Specialty Hospital, Chicagoland residents have access to a full acute-to post-acute continuum of care.
